A rare Warren Buffett-signed stock certificate recently sold at auction for $15,000, proving once again that stock certificates are more than just paper—they’re valuable collectibles. This particular certificate, issued on March 13, 1962, represented 100 shares of Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company stock, issued to the Buffett Partnership. With only eight known to exist, it’s one of the most sought-after Buffett autographs in the investment world.
As someone who has met Warren Buffett in person, I can appreciate the excitement around owning a piece of history. When I attended the 2013 Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder Meeting, I had the incredible opportunity to meet him and get my copy of I'm a Shareholder signed (see photo!). Since then, I’ve had my eye on another collectible: a Berkshire Hathaway stock certificate with Buffett’s signature. While today’s Berkshire Hathaway stock certificates feature a printed version of his name rather than a handwritten autograph, they could still become valuable memorabilia one day.
Why Buy a Stock Certificate?
At GiveAshare.com, we specialize in framed stock certificates—real shares of stock that make for unique gifts and collectibles. While the financial world has largely gone digital, there’s something special about holding a physical stock certificate in your hands. It’s a tangible piece of ownership and, in some cases, a future collector’s item.
A Berkshire Hathaway certificate today might not fetch $15,000 at auction (yet!), but history has shown that stock certificates from iconic investors and companies can become highly sought-after. Whether you’re a Buffett fan, an investor, or looking for a unique financial gift, a stock certificate is a piece of history that stands the test of time.
Who knows? Maybe at the next Berkshire Hathaway meeting, I’ll be lucky enough to get a real stock certificate signed by Warren Buffett himself. Until then, you can start your own collection—check out our full list of available stocks here.
